The outgoing Mr. San Diego Leather, Adam “Buster” Wentzel, admits he is relatively new to Titleholding, but has shown a strong start in his first year as a dedicated community volunteer. He feels his primary role is as an intermediary, and is a youth and mentorship advocate. He maintains volunteer positions on Leather History Project, Leather Pride Week, Leather Realm, Tom of Finland Foundation, he is a Founding Member of The Cash Cow Corps and the current Leather Pride Contingent Float Coordinator. He insists that, usually, the only thing you need fear about him is his sense of humor. This week, the 25th Mr. San Diego Leather will be chosen. I will join the many “Misters,” as they say, who are active mentors and volunteers in our community, advocating cultural pride and preservation and providing for the sober and safe-minded core of our community. He will have our support and mentorship, and the flexibility to make the Title year his own. Joining him will be a new Ms. San Diego Leather, who similarly has strong shoulders to stand on and big shoes to fill. To me, she represents the significant (sometimes underestimated) contribution of the women’s community to the San Diego Leather Community. Though “the Ms” is not required to work together with “the Mister,” it is my hope that having both contests together will strengthen the likelihood that they can and do.
As you enjoy the contests and events during Leather Pride Week, all of us on the Leather Pride Week Committee thank you for your support of a growing tradition and two very worthy charities. |
